Microsoft – Sales IT
Software Development EngineerI joined Sales IT based on my experience doing UI work and rapid prototyping with Innovation IT. I was tasked with developing an interactive sales commission modeling tool to be used by Microsoft sales people to estimate their potential commission and incentivize sales. They had an existing tool but it was out dated and not very graphical or user friendly.
Together with another MACH college hire I developed an interactive graphical representation of the sales algorithm, giving the user full control to model any potential scenario. In order to accurately develop our model we studied the models used by Microsoft sales people and conducted interviews to accurately understand the key elements.
Our final product allowed for manipulation of any slider or text input field resulting in real time updates of all other controls. Building such an interactive and responsive UI taught me a lot about the underpinnings of XAML and UWP development which would serve me well in my work at Disney.
Microsoft – Innovation IT
Software Development EngineerInnovation IT was a small team made up primarily of recent college hires and run in a "startup-style". It was run by Pankaj Arora, a rising star in the Microsoft IT organization. His goal was to showcase what could be done with new technology and young developers given a blank slate.
When I joined the team they had just completed their first major success and were pivoting into a new project with a larger team. We built an internal product in partnership with Microsoft HR. They were going to do a pilot program where they would give Surface tablets to candidates who had come to campus for interviews. The tablets would be running our app which would include their interview schedule and access to campus resources.
I took on the bulk of the UI work and worked closely with our designer to develop, test, and refine the interface concepts the team was coming up with. We had several hands-on meetings with our HR stakeholders to review our products capabilities and discuss the roadmap. I served as a liaison between engineering and our stakeholders by helping translate business needs and engineering constraints into design solutions. The pilot program with HR was successful and development continued after my tenue with the team.
After finishing primary development of Candidate Experience, we developed a companion app for an internal conference. This was done on a very short timescale with a rapid iterative design process. Our app was available on Windows Phone during the conference and was well received.
